3rd/4th Grade Teacher

Amanda grew up in Iowa before attending University of Wisconsin in Madison, where she studied Geoscience. After receiving her B.A. in Geoscience, she coached a high school rowing team and found her passion for teaching through coaching.  Amanda moved to Oakland in 2014 to teach in special education for one year. She then became a teaching associate at the Chinese American International School in San Francisco. During this time, she completed her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and earned her teaching credential from the Bay Area Teacher Training Institute and University of the Pacific. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, camping, gardening, and traveling whenever she can.

Amanda enjoys being a teacher at Crestmont because of the focus on community and the support for each child as a whole person and a lifelong learner. Her classroom is structured so students feel comfortable, and also models the importance of problem-solving skills and flexibility. She enjoys watching her students grow into resilient and helpful classmates, and hopes to foster a cooperative and curious class of joyful learners.
