Derinna was born and raised in Belize and speaks English, Spanish and Creole. She moved to the Bay Area with her parents and five siblings where she finished her Senior year in High School.

She then attended Utah Valley University where she studied Early Childhood Education and was very involved in dance.

Derinna moved back to California in 2005 and soon found her second home at Crestmont where she taught Spanish for eleven years. She took some time off when she had her third child, and is happy to be back at Crestmont. She introduced Zumba Kids (R) to the Crestmont students almost seven years ago, and she is so happy that the Crestmont community has embraced it and that she can keep the kids moving in such a fun way! Her dream was always to work with children. She learns from them on a daily basis and loves to see them grow as human beings; emotionally, cognitively and socially.

Derinna enjoys spending time with her family, scrapbooking, drawing, camping, sewing, dancing and teaching her Zumba classes.
