A Day in the Life of a Willow

Here’s a sneak peak into what went on last week in Crestmont’s Kindergarten/First Grade classroom…

We are exploring the “day” and “shadow” portions of our “Sun” Thematic Unit. We had a visitor who shared a beautiful shadow puppet performance and the Willows were completely mesmerized!

They watched in awe as the light and shapes came together to tell a story, sparking so many questions and ideas about how shadows can be used to bring imagination to life.

Next week, we’ll continue this work by creating our own shadow puppets, experimenting with how light, movement, and storytelling connect.

We’ll also begin weaving in storytelling traditions inspired by Indigenous creation stories, exploring how cultures across the world have used light and shadow to explain the beginnings of the world and our connection to it.

It’s been a wonderful bridge between science, art, and culture—reminding us that learning can be both deeply meaningful and full of wonder.
